Food truck and music festival

Food Festival:

CHENNAI: Food is music to the body, music is food to the heart. And to get a delicious serving of both, all you have to do is take a drive down East Coast Road (ECR) this weekend. The very first edition of the Chennai Music Festival held at VGP Universal Kingdom (lawn) on July 7 and 8.
“Chennai has more than 50 food trucks, serving different cuisines. There are ones that sell just ice creams, dosa varieties, juices etc,” says K N Karthikeyan, member of Chennai Food Guide (CFG), which has conceptualized the festival.

CFG, founded in 2005, organises food-related events and workshops. “The concept of the food truck and music festival is not new; it has been held in different parts of the world. But it is a first-of-its-kind event in Chennai,” says Karthikeyan. “We wanted to try and understand how people accept a concept like this and if they are willing to drive all the way down to ECR to attend a fest like this.”

About 15 food trucks are expected to participate in the event.

“We will have trucks and stalls as well as food carts and Bullet Bikes. There are 10 food bikes in the city, like BBQ Ride, which sells barbeques on bikes,” he says, adding they will also have food stalls.

“We will also have Southish, the food truck from Sathyam Cinemas.”

A couple of new ventures will also be launched at the fest. “A lot of new concepts are emerging. For instance, there is a person who will launch Wagon 007, which will sell chicken cones, ie, chicken in waffle cones."

“Another food cart, Foodvandi.com, which will sell biriyanis in a cart, will also be launched at the event.” Along with the food, there is also music to keep you going. “Since the event will start at noon and go till 10:30pm, we wanted to offer some entertainment. So we thought of giving a platform for young and aspiring bands and musicians,” says Karthikeyan. “We will have a DJ, individual performers and also bands like Staccato, Madras Mail, Aatma, Amogh & The Homies, and On That Note.” So visitors can listen to hip-hop, retro, Carnatic, contemporary and Indie music. Entry is free but interested people have to come across the world
